Happy Halloween…

If you’ve not already taken the kids out trick or treating then, I hope you have fun, get lots of loot, and make great memories. If you’re recovering from a costume party over the weekend, I hope that it was eventful and memorable for you. Likewise I hope that we’re all ready to jump into the holiday season and make the most of it.

For my Halloween weekend festivities, I kept it quiet. I enjoyed a well-deserved day and  a half away from the day job by snuggling with this little guy and watching Stranger Things 2 on Netflix in a glorious marathon of binge watching while working on an embroidery project that will be added to my mother’s Christmas decor. East Texas weather didn’t disappoint me either. It ended up being quite chilly and I was enjoying my new slippers and my favorite comfy pants. I even realized that I’ve lost inches since my sugery in September. That was a big plus for me.

October has been a busy month. The first half of it was spent preparing for a charity event where we displayed this beauty. I’m planning on a post to explain all of it but, just looking at it is awesome. Out of that we actually booked our first wedding cake as well. That will happen next year as they are planning early. I am excited about it though.

As I wrap up the month I am finding myself a bit more determined to make the most of the end of 2017.  I need to finish my current WIP draft and get on with the process. I’ve put it on hold long enough. Nanowrimo is a perfect excuse to do just that. I’ll post about that tomorrow and what to expect in November from me. There are definitely changes brewing for me.

There will be more posts of writing projects and other creative endeavors. And looking ahead. 2018 is sure to be a big year for me. It’s all about priorities. And I’m getting those in line.

Planning…..

Juggling everything that I do doesn’t always mean I’m successful at it. No pics this time folks. My week has gotten away from me a bit. This week and last were pretty busy with baking projects with SamBee’s Sweets. Virtually no real writing has been accomplished on the book. Though I am working to get scenes in as I can between all the other projects and work hours. Really, I’m just trying to keep myself going with the day job where I’ve had bosses in the office for audit and meetings. So, believe me when I tell you that this lady is absolutely ready for a break of some sort. Hopefully this weekend I’ll have a chance to catch up and recouperate.

Things are looking up in many ways. That’s a good thing. It also means that I’ll be busier than I have been in the past. That could turn problematic if I don’t plan ahead. So, for my blog this weekend I’m likely going to give you a bit of a walk through of my planning technique and what I use to keep track of it all. I’m sure that, since there is a holiday weekend, I’ll find time for some photos of the current incarnation of my planner.

I am really looking forward to a couple of days to focus on creative projects. I’m hoping to find a couple of hours to be at the easel painting in the midst of all of the merry making. But there are so many preparations to be made for the Gala in October. We plan to get started on those things to minimize last minute things. It will already be a super busy week leading up to it. But, it should be a great opportunity to put our work out there and really let the community know we are here and doing some tasty things.

In which the author is sidetracked…

Wow, the time got away from me.

I’ve been most of the week in my little writer’s studio working away on my novel in the time that I’ve had. Happy to say that it is going really well. Hoping to be at the halfway mark by the end of the day today. We shall see if the muse sticks around like she has been. So far, so good. The outline helps. But it has been good to be doing what we writers do.

I am going to try to have something a bit less trivial next post. I’m looking over options from my brainstorming sessions to find something interesting to bring you.

I’ve been thinking over the idea of bringing an episodic fiction series to Patreon. Initially thinking about something with a bit of a vintage feel to it. For those who don’t know me well yet, you’ll find that I love the Victorian Era fashions and social graces. I’ve wanted very much to write something set in that era. I’m not sure if it would quite fit the usual steampunk mold or not. I’m not about the cogs and gears so much. But, I do think it could be interesting and find an audience. For me it would be a bit different from the usual style as well. That sort of break could be good for me.

Speaking of breaks, I did take one this evening to watch Kong: Skull Island. I’d seen the movie while on a date when it was in theaters. I’m not usually an action film girl. I made an exception here because I remembered it being pretty good. (Well, it could also have been because of Tom Hiddleston but, I digress.) It was a good film. I think it went into a greater detail that opened the whole concept up for a new generation to enjoy. Definitely was more about the myth behind it and wove in a whole history that was interesting and kept you riveted.

I have mixed feelings about the remakes I see now. It almost feels that Hollywood isn’t willing to take chances on new ideas anymore. There is no shortage of new fiction out there to pull from. Many a novelist also dabbles in screeenwriting. We’d love to see our characters brought to life on the silver screen. But, again, Hollywood would rather invest time and resources into making a new version of King Kong or It for example. I get it, those are sure box office revenue winners. They are in it to make money. I’d just like to see more storytellers get their work to the audiences that will love them.

Before I call it a night, I want to take a moment to reach out to all of you. What would you like to see here? I have ideas but, I would love to answer some of your questions as well. It can be about writing, self-publishing, creativity, or even just life in general.

69 Questions- A Meme

hese question and answer memes were all the rage back when I started blogging in a personal journal. I can remember doing them with my online friends often. We’ll file this under “fun stuff” or “getting to know you”. Here are 69 random questions about yours truly. And if you come up with more like these, I’ll compile them into another random post and answer them.

1: Could you go the rest of your life without smoking a cigarette?

Absolutely. That is never a habit I wanted to pick up.

2: Are you single/taken/heartbroken/confused?

Happy to say taken. Well, at least, I will be soon. Engaged.

3: What if I told you that you were pretty?

I’d likely blush and say thank you.

4: Ever been told “it’s not you, it’s me”?

Oh yeah. Many times.

5: Are you interested in anyone right now? Romantically?

My fiance. We made the engagement official on Mother’s Day.

6: What are you looking forward to in the next week?

Lots of things. Most notably the possibility of moving.

7: Do you want to be single?

I’ve found that I do not do well when I am single. So that would be a negative.

8: Did you go out or stay in last night?

Went out but not as late as I usually do. I’m sort of stretched between two households at the moment.

9: How late did you stay up last night?

About 1:00am

10: Can you recall the last time you realized you liked someone a lot?

Yes. As a matter of fact it was back in early December.

11: Last three things you had to drink?

Iced Tea, Green Tea, and half tea/lemonade mix.

12: Have you pretended to like someone?

When I was much younger. Though, I have to ask myself what I was thinking about certain “relationships”.

13: Have you ever told somebody you loved them and not actually meant it?

No. I can honestly say that despite the confusion over those words from time to time, I truly meant it as I understood it when I did say it.

14: Honestly, has anyone seen you in your underwear in the past 3 months?

Other than Mom? Nope.

15: Is it hard for you to get over someone?

In the past it was difficult for me to get over one other person. Ironically, it wasn’t all that hard this past time. Maybe that says more about the depth of the relationship though.

16: Think back five months ago, were you single?

Yes. Technically I was single. My fiance and I were really just starting to date.

17: What were you doing at 12:30 this afternoon?

Watching a movie with my fiance and talking about moving into our own place.

18: Hold hands with anyone this week?

Oh yes, many times. *Smiles*

19: Could you go for the rest of your life without drinking alcohol?

I could, yes. If I had to. I’m not that big on alcohol actually. I enjoy a cocktail once in a while though.

20: What would you name your future daughter?

I don’t know. I like the name Abigail. I also like Calliope and a whole slew of other names.

21: Do you miss anyone?

Of course I do. Don’t we all?

22: Have you kissed three or more people in one night?

Romantically, No. But yes, family. Nana, Pa, Mom, Dad etc. We always made the “goodnite” rounds in our house.

23: Did your last kiss take place in/on a bed?

Nope.

24: Are you good at hiding your feelings?

Sometimes. Though, I find it more difficult now than ever before.

25: Have you ever cried from being so mad?

Oh yeah. That’s a sure indicator that you’ve screwed up if you’ve gotten me to that point.

My fiance. Unless you count my stepdad in the next room who wanders in every now and again.

27: Are you listening to music right now?

Nope.

I talked to him earlier. Will see him first thing in the morning for church as well.

36: Who did you last share a bed with?

Odie or Cinnamon (mom’s dogs… aka. My little brother and sister)

37: Did you do something bad today?

I don’t think so. LOL I could be wrong though.

About four hours ago. Just before I headed home.

Depends. Sometimes yes. Sometimes no.

40: Will you sing today?

Yes. I’m always singing in the car, while doing housework, even while I’m writing.

41: Have you ever wanted to tell someone something but didn’t?

There are many things that I would like to say to a few people. I won’t though. Easier to let go than to allow myself to get all upset again over their B.S.

42: Who do you go to when you need to talk to someone?

Usually my fiance, my mom, or my best buddy. Of course, my stepdad is always there to lend an ear in confidence as well.

To a degree yes.

55: Ever stayed up all night on the phone, with who?

Yes. Many time with old boyfriends and best friends.

57: Do you use chap stick?

Sometimes

69: Will next Friday be a good one?

If all goes well, then yes. Either way it will be good. It could just be great!

Keeping It Simple…

No fancy images today folks. I am truly keeping this post simple since I have things I need to get started with already.  I got a late start today thanks to this summer allergy/cold thing I have going on. Between the coughing, interrupted sleep, and heat amping up here in Texas, I feel like I’m fighting to keep myself above water in the energy department. But, we keep moving and keep going whether we want to or not.  I am, however, trying some different medicine today in an attempt to knock it out completely. We shall see what happens though.

Last night, my fiance was later getting home than I thought he would be. We ended up waiting for the kiddo to eat with the other kids and then we took her out for ice cream. It was her last full week of school and she was really good all week so, we opted for family ice cream outing. Of course, Dad and I got dinner while she devoured her sundae. Then we made a trip to Walmart. She got a new outfit and a kite so, I suppose at some point this weekend we’ll brave a trip to the park and let her try to fly it.

As for me, I’m going to focus on trying to stay cool and enjoying myself. I know that he’s helping with a project but I’m sure I can find somewhere to sit and work for a while if I try. I  haven’t seen them much this week so I’m looking forward to spending time with them.
